Facilitating Mushroom Growth

AT GIFTS FROM METSÄ we are
committed to see the destructive clear
cutting techniques become a thing of the
past here in Finland. This is why we have
partnered with Tuohi to supply us the
logs we use. Together we manage Finnish
forests with techniques that promote
biodiversity, various animal habitat, and natural ecosystem support.

Decomposition is a natural process, why not utilize it to provide tasty mushrooms for us?

A natural builder, farmer, and lover of forests everywhere is excited to be growing various mushroom strains outdoors in Lohja.  Contact me for questions or if you want to come see the farm.

We work with natural cycles of the forest to produce the highest quality mushrooms available.

  • We carefully select local birch, alder, aspen, and oak trees that are growing to close and reducing the vitality of the forest to cut down.
  • We only cut these trees in the winter when they have the most available sugars and nutrients.
  • In the spring we inoculate various varieties including shiitake, oyster, nameko, reishi, turkey tail, and chicken of the woods.
  • We only use local bees wax to seal the inoculation holes as this supports local farmers and promotes nontoxic solutions.

We can direct the growth and succession of the forest to create healthier and more resilient system, especially after it has been clear cut.

Pioneer trees such as birch work great to grow mushrooms on.  Please contact us in order to learn more how you can get your forest involved.
